So I caught myself today. I love it when that happens.

As many of you know, I am really stepping into a new role. Well, not a new role, but actually stepping more fully into one. My dream has been to work with individuals as a therapist. I’ve worked really hard to attain my education and hands on training. I’ve also been blessed to have had plenty of great, although sometimes traumatic, life experiences.

I am currently organizing a men’s group. I have attended, as well as facilitated, a few of these over the years. This time around, I will be facilitating the group alone and it is exciting.

But here’s how I caught myself. As I put this group “out there”, I noticed “how” I put it out there. I poured over my Facebook friends a list, reviewed Kintu’s mailing list and Facebook page. Who would I sent this to? Who would want to attend such a group?

“Well that guy wouldn’t come,” I said. “That guys squared away, he wouldn’t be interested,” I said.

Then it hit me. Who am I to assume who needs what? It isn’t for me at all. It’s for me to do everything I can to put this out there and trust that those who need it, those with which it resonates, will find it.

Let others decide what works for them. I can’t decide for them before they have a chance themselves. Lesson learned.

Hopefully I continue to catch myself.
